Help Mobilize the Immigrant Vote in 2008!

In the wake of the historic mass mobilizations of 2006, immigration reform and immigrant rights continued to be one of the hot-button issues of 2007 and 2008. We have witnessed the rise in civic participation within immigrant communities, including record numbers of naturalization applications submitted. Yet, the government responses to this growing movement have resulted in increased border and detention deaths and continual interior enforcement that terrorizes communities.

As the most populated state, California and its residents play a significant role in defining the direction of our country. One in four Californians is an immigrant. California has proven time and time again to be a bellwether for both positive and negative public policies. The 2008 elections will be a pivotal point in the campaign for immigrant rights. Local, statewide, and national coalitions are preparing to ensure that the civic participation of immigrant communities in 2008 makes a significant impact. The Mobilize the Immigrant Vote (MIV) California Collaborative is on course to make a major contribution to building the capacity of grassroots immigrant groups across California to win short-term and long-term victories for positive change in the state and nation.
